New Osteoporosis Shots

The new osteoporosis shots is a drug (zoledronic acid..another bisphosphanate..like Fosamax) which slows down bone resoroption.

Here is the problem....bone status is a dynamic process. In other words..bone must be broken down and re-built all the time to be healthy and strong..its just its chemistry...its how it works.

To simply stop bone resorption is only half of the story. Sure, less bone is resorbed..but you are now left with old, brittle bone....absolutely nothing has been done to increase the development of new active bone...which is ultimately what you need for healthy, functional bones!

As you can read in the abstract (summary) of this paper..there was only a marginal improvement in bone resorption in part of the study..and in another part...it was no different from the placebo (fake medicine) group.

This drug was developed because oral drugs like Fosamax caused a lot of stomach and intestinal irritation so people would not take their medication for long or consistently. This drug manufacturer figured if it was injected...it would bypass that problem.

The real problem is that its not very effective and it doesn't deal with the whole problem.

In this article, researchers are talking about a drug, Sulphasalazine which is showing in animals trials, the ability to reverse some of the scarring associated with cirrhosis.

Homeopathy for kennel cough, home remedies for kennel cough..I get so many questions about this in the spring. I think its a combination of situations which result in the increase at this time of year.

People have wintered away for a time and their precious pet has been exposed in boarding kennels to many other animals..leaving them open to infection. Kennel cough typically takes about 8-12 days or so to manifest...which is just about the time the family returns and takes their pet home.

Important Homeopathic Treatment for Kennel Cough:

Drosera 9CH: Very good for the typical dry hacking cough. Probably the primary remedy.

Aconite 6C: A very early remedy to give when the first signs appear. Usually good when the pet seems well and within hours becomes ill...very quickly. If given in time, it can abort the whole infection. Excellent for calming the pet.

Spongia Tosta 6C: Drier, more hoarse, barking cough. Similar to the 'trained seal' sound people get.

Phosphorus 30C: Dry cough with flecks of blood in it...this may be leading to pneumonia. Increase their Pet Immune and Horehound.

Bryonia 30C: Dry cough with obvious pain. Cough may have moved deeper into the lungs. Dog feels better if you hold its rib cage while it coughs as the intercostal muscles (between the ribs) are very tender from the coughing.

Beta 1,3-D gulcan works by activating the immune cells known as macrophages. These macrophages trap and consume foreign substances in the body. Dr. Joyce K. Kennel cough falls under the area of upper respiratory infections or 'colds' or 'tracheobronchitis'. The upper respiratory tract, which includes the nose, throat, (pharnyx), voice box (larynx),tracea (windpipe) and upper bronchi (largest air vessels leading into the lungs) is one of the easiest enteries into the animal's body.

Virus, baceria, etc can dry out and masquerade as dust. Dried secretions, scabs and the like, break down into tiny particles and can be inhaled in the air. All of this leads to pathways for infection for your pet.

There are several causes of coughing associated with tracheobronchitis, all of which get lumped under the general name 'kennel cough' at times. So it is possible for a dog to get kennel cough from two or three different causes in one lifetime. In addition to that, the most common cause of tracheobronchitis in dogs is probably Bordetella bronchiseptica infection, a bacterial infection...or it can be caused by various virus.

Immunity to this infection is not long lasting even after having the illness. Immunity probably lasts 6 to 12 months in most dogs and when it wears out they can get the infection again.

As Dr. Avorn writes..we naturally think that there are governing commitees that check that drugs are safe before they are released to the publics....and it just isn't so.

Most are tested by the drug company who made them in the first place ..now how safe is that?

Flu Vaccine..Risks..Benefits

Each year in the fall, I am asked by my patients "Should I get the flu shot?" My general response is a resounding "No" !

These vaccines are preserved with thimerosal, a mercury derived preservative.
At the moment, all injections with this product in it are under consideration as a
possible causal factor in the current upsurge of autism amongst children. I do not
see this as an "allergic reaction to the flu or influenza shot" but a toxic reaction to a neurotoxin.
